1964 Pontiac GTO
Some GTOs capture the spirit of the muscle car era. This one takes that spirit and turns it up to 10. This exceptionally clean 1964 Pontiac GTO Hardtop in Starlight Black has been thoroughly redone with an impressive collection of performance upgrades, carefully selected components, and documented workmanship. Beneath the hood sits a professionally rebuilt 468 cubic-inch Pontiac V8, backed by a Tremec 5-speed manual transmission and a host of modern performance enhancements that make this GTO every bit as serious as it looks.
The heart of this build is a 455ci Pontiac V8 sourced from a 1970 engine, punched out to 468 cubic inches and rebuilt from a bare block with all-new internal components. The build incorporates quality name-brand components, including a COMP Cams camshaft, Kauffman aluminum cylinder heads, Doug's headers, and a complete Edelbrock dual-rail electronic fuel injection system. The EFI package includes the intake, throttle body, ignition components, fuel lines, and pumps. Kin Dig It electric exhaust cutouts add another dimension, allowing you to open things up when you want to hear this big Pontiac V8 breathe. The engine was assembled by a highly regarded local engine builder known for his extensive experience and meticulous attention to tolerances. With just 525 miles since the complete engine rebuild, this 468 is barely broken in.
Power is delivered through a Tremec 5-speed manual transmission, bringing modern shifting capability to this iconic first-year GTO. Out back, the rebuilt 12-bolt rear end features new ring and pinion gears, limited-slip traction, and a 3.23 gear ratio, providing a well-rounded combination of performance and drivability.
The chassis and braking systems have received equally impressive attention. Coilover shocks at all four corners provide adjustable suspension performance, while four-wheel power disc brakes offer confident stopping power. A CPP Hydratech system supports the upgraded power steering and braking setup. The car also features a new fuel tank and an Optima battery.
The modern touches continue throughout. Updated wiring harnesses serve the engine, dashboard, and headlights, while a complete Classic Instruments gauge package brings contemporary instrumentation to the cockpit. The GTO rides on REV five-spoke wheels wrapped in Bridgestone Potenza performance tires, measuring 235/45R17 up front and 255/40R18 in the rear.
Perhaps just as impressive as the mechanical work is the documentation accompanying this car. The owner has retained receipts covering virtually every aspect of the build, including extensive work performed by a local performance shop within the last three years, along with documentation dating back to 2007 from California. The new gauge package has accumulated just 1,425 miles, while the complete engine rebuild has seen only 525 miles.
And for the Pontiac purist, there's an important distinction: this isn't a tribute or a clone. Accompanying the car is complete Pontiac Historic Services (PHS) documentation verifying its authenticity as a genuine 1964 Pontiac GTO.
The 1964 GTO helped launch the muscle car movement, and this example honors that legacy while incorporating thoughtfully selected modern performance equipment. With a professionally built 468ci Pontiac V8, Tremec 5-speed, four-wheel coilovers, four-wheel disc brakes, extensive documentation, and exceptionally low mileage since its major mechanical work, this is a thoroughly sorted GTO with a tremendous amount to offer its next enthusiast.
A genuine 1964 GTO with a serious Pontiac heart, modern performance underneath, and the documentation to back it all up.
