1978 Pontiac Trans Am Pro Touring

1978 TRANS AM
Feast your eyes on this 1978 Pontiac Trans Am, a Pro Touring brute wrapped in deep, jet-black paint laid over solid, original rust-free panels. The body is absolutely stunning, with multiple layers of clear that give it a true mirror finish. It’s the kind of black paint that looks wet even in the shade, perfectly highlighting the straight lines, sculpted curves, and iconic Trans Am attitude. Panel fitment is spot on. This car has the presence of a showpiece long before you even touch the ignition.
But trust us.... you will want to touch that ignition.
Under the hood sits a fully built 455 torque monster, pumping out an impressive 473 horsepower and a brutal 588 lb-ft of torque. It’s dressed with a full Tru Trac Billet Specialties pulley system, giving the engine bay a modern, high-end look to match its performance. The build features an Eagle rotating assembly, Howards cam, roller lifters, double roller timing chain, stainless rockers, and ARP hardware throughout. Airflow and power are unleashed through Edelbrock aluminum D-port heads, an Edelbrock intake, and an 850 Quick Fuel carb, all fed by premium fuel lines and fittings for flawless delivery.
A Wilwood aluminum master cylinder, Billet Specialties power steering, Vintage Air Gen IV heat & A/C, and a billet hood hinge kit elevate both performance and comfort. Keeping this beast cool is a Ron Francis aluminum radiator with matching overflow bottle and electric fans, the perfect setup for a big 455 built to perform.
Underneath: Show Car Clean. Pro Touring Serious.
The undercarriage of this Trans Am is just as impressive as the top side. The spotless original floors were blasted and painted, revealing crisp factory seams, clean spot welds, and even the lower quarter panel drain plugs looking factory-fresh. It is the kind of underbody you show off with pride.
Up front, the car runs all-new upgraded QA1 suspension with tubular control arms, a fat sway bar, and adjustable coil-over gas shocks.... tight, precise, and ready for carving corners.
In back, the grip continues with Detroit Speed suspension, including tubular upper and lower control arms and adjustable coil-overs. The chassis is further strengthened with Competition Engineering frame connectors, tying the front and rear together for rock-solid handling.
Stopping power comes from a full Wilwood 4-wheel disc brake system with drilled and slotted rotors, giving the car modern braking performance to match its horsepower.
Underneath It sports an extra-capacity oil pan, high-torque starter, and absolutely spotless surfaces. Everything looks nice, and built with care.
Drivetrain Built to Handle the Power
Shifting comes from a TKO600 5-speed, a $4,616 setup, including custom supports, linkage, Stage 1 Ceramix clutch kit, bellhousing, flywheel, and all the hardware. Power is fed through a race-balanced driveshaft with solid U-joints for bulletproof reliability.
Out back, a 3.42 posi-traction rear with aluminum cover puts the torque to the pavement efficiently and consistently.
The car exhales through a custom exhaust system with Flowmaster mufflers, giving it that deep, authoritative muscle-car growl every Trans Am deserves.
This 1978 Trans Am is the definition of a Pro Touring build done right, show quality paint, rust free, flawless underneath, and packing a fully built 455 backed by modern suspension, brakes, cooling, and a TKO600 5-speed. It looks wicked, drives like a modern performance machine, and has the kind of craftsmanship you only find in high end builds.
A true black-on-black street legend,,,,, ready to show, cruise, or dominate.
